I'm looking to get a bike that I can use for just getting around town (Fargo/Moorhead area) So I don't want a full blown motorcycle per say but I was thinking around the 125-150cc area based on recommendations from my local motorcycleshop. My Question really comes from the fact that I see online some scooters for like $1,200 for 150cc and the bike at the local shop was a yamaha for $3,300. Can someone point me in a direction of what bikes would be affordable (preferably under 3k) that will still perform well?
There are several fine scooter made in that size, I see them on Ebay all the time. Piaggio, Vespa and Kymco are the three highest rated scooter companies in the world. They will cost you a little more. Kymco is the best bargain. Those really cheap scooters are a roll of the dice. For every one that is good there are 100 bad. The Jap big four are just expensive that is all. I have seen many Kymco's on ebay for $2500 or less that are good buy s and they have a warranty and it is honored. Also they have been around since 1963.

I have a ssr lazer 5 scooter, a typical 50cc VIP scooter, and a 07 wildfire 150cc engine. my lazer 5 needs a new engine. 1st question, would the VIP engine fit in? and 2nd question would the wildfire engine fit into it? cause i was thinking about swapping engines, and im not sure if the engines can work without overworking the lazer 5. thanks very much in advance!

If i have a full Uk drivers Licence, am i able to drive a scooter in France? If so, up to what cc?
I will be living in France until the end of April '09 and need a set of wheels, I have a Full UK drivers licence (held for over 2 years) but no UK bike licence, am i still able to drive something small like a 50cc scooter? ideally i would like something a bit faster like a 125cc.
I have looked around and cant seem to find any info on my predicament! cheers
You can drive throughout Europe accordingly to your licence in the UK.
So whatever applies here, you can do there.
You can on a full uk driving licence ride a 49cc scooter but must have a valid CBT certificate. But this depends on when you passed your test. Just check out the DVLA website what you are entitled to ride
The easiest thing would be to get a provisional bike entitlement to your full car licence and then ride in france on a 125cc with L plate. Again you will need to do a cbt first before you leave. If you stay in France for over a year you need to apply for a france licence..
